11.0 Civil Works By GCPE Under DPEP & SSA
Due to enrollment drive and other access promotion measures, enrollment in primary schools was found to have increased substantially. A sharp rise in enrolment led to overcrowding and put strain on the limited existing schooling infrastructure. To deal with such a situation, construction of new schools, additional classrooms, separate toilets and urinals for girls, provision of drinking water, etc. were taken up by GCPE under DPEP and SSA. In addition, repair works were undertaken in schools. All these interventions have significantly improved the overall pedagogical environment in the primary schools of the project districts.
11.1. Civil Works under DPEP
The Civil Works under DPEP were undertaken by the District Project Units with the support of VCWCs and local communities. Construction of new schools, additional classrooms, toilets, urinals , Block Resource Centers and repairs were undertaken in the six DPEP IV districts.
11.1.1 Construction of Additional Classroom, New Schools, BRC & CRC Buildings.
Construction of Additional Classrooms, New Schools, BRC & CRC Buildings were undertaken by the district units as proposed in their respective AWP & B under DPEP IV. As per the set targets, 100% achievement was accomplished in the construction of Additional Classrooms, New Schools, BRC & CRC Buildings. The details of the same are shown below :

11.1.2 Construction of Toilet Blocks, Water Facilities & Repair Works.
Construction of Toilet Blocks, Water Facilities & Repair Works were undertaken by the district units as proposed in their respective AWP & B under DPEP IV. As per the set targets, 100% achievement was accomplished in the construction of Additional Classrooms, New Schools, BRC & CRC Buildings. The details of the same are shown below:
11.2 Civil Works in SSA
The Civil Works under SSA were undertaken by the District Project Units with the support of VECs and local communities. Construction of New Schools, Additional Classrooms, Buildingless Schools, Head Masters Room, Toilets, Urinals, Compound Wall, Block Resource Centers, Cluster Resource Centers, and repairs were undertaken in the 25 districts and 4 areas under Municipal Corporation under SSA.
11.2.1 Additional Classrooms, New Schools & Buildingless Schools in SSA
Construction of additional classrooms, new schools and buildingless schools was started under SSA in the right earnest. A total of 1332 additional classrooms have been already completed, while the work is in progress in 321 places. Construction of 19 new schools with Mid Day Meal Shed is completed, while the work is in progress in 13 New Schools. Also, construction of 9 buildings for buildingless schools is completed, while the work is in progress in 4.

11.2.2 Drinking Water Facility, Toilet Blocks & Compound Wall in SSA
Under SSA, construction of drinking water facility and toilet blocks has been undertaken in the project districts. The work of constructing drinking water facility is completed in 843 schools, while it is in progress in 33 schools. A total of 1119 toilet blocks have been constructed already, while 54 are under construction. A total of 1750 Compound Walls have been
constructed already, while work is in progress in 85 schools.
